September 12 - Birmingham Farmers Market Hay Day

Celebrate greater Birmingham’s agricultural heritage at the Farmers Market Hay Day event on Sunday, September 12, 2010 from 9 am – 2 pm. In addition to the area’s freshest produce, families will learn about the evolution of farming with hands-on activities for all ages.

After enjoying Hay Day at the Farmers Market, head to the Birmingham Historical Museum and Park from 10am to 2pm to see live animals from Bowers School Farm and listen to educators talk about the importance of farming in this area. Meet with costumed Michigan pioneers at the 1822 John West Hunter House, where attendees will make candles, color, play historic games, and enjoy complimentary light refreshments.

The 36th Art in the Park will be held Sept.25 - 26, 2010 in Downtown Birmingham.

The fair will feature original juried art by more than 190 artists from across the country in 18 media: basketry, ceramics, drawing, general fibers, wearable fibers, blown glass, flat glass, handmade paper, jewelry, leather, metal, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture and wood. Live entertainment, delicious food, and a children's area with hands-on art activities make the event a wonderful fall weekend activity.

1 - 4 p.m. The Junior League of Birmingham and The Community House invite you to the perfect fun-filled family afternoon! The 17th Annual Pumpkin Patch will be held on the terrace of The Community House on Merrill St. Activities will include moon bounces, healthy refreshments, fantastic crafts, cookie decorating, and spooktacular games for children of all ages. The Community House Dance Academy will perform and Baldwin Library will have a non-scary story time and magician. Attendees are encouraged to wear costumes.
