Local Chambers Support Detroit Regional Aerotropolis Concept

BIRMINGHAM, MICH., March 19, 2009 – As plans for the development of the Detroit Regional Aerotropolis project unfold, the Birmingham Bloomfield and Troy Chambers have expressed support for the initiative.

The Aerotropolis will stretch between Detroit Metro Airport and Willow Run Airport, bringing together over 25,000 acres of developable land to create a Michigan hub for transportation. The airports will serve as the core while other air-commerce linked businesses will surround them.

“Southeast Michigan already has the key elements to make this project happen. The puzzle pieces have come together organically. It would be impractical to turn away from this opportunity,” voiced Troy Chamber president, Michele Hodges.

Echoing Hodges’s statement, Birmingham Bloomfield Chamber president, Carrie Zarotney stated, “The potential for economic growth is outstanding with the implementation of this plan. It will serve as a driving force in boosting Metro Detroit’s business climate.”

It is estimated that the Aerotropolis initiative will create approximately 64,000 jobs and $10 billion in economic impact. While several communities are already devoted to the concept, commitment from nine targeted communities will spur a request for a package of development incentives from the Legislature.
