PURCHASE VINE & DINE TICKETS AND HELP NOURISH COMMUNITIES BY FEEDING HUNGRY PEOPLE

BIRMINGHAM, Mich., September 4, 2009 – The Birmingham Bloomfield Chamber’s 6th annual fundraiser, Vine & Dine will be held on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 from 6 – 9 p.m. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan.

“Gleaners is grateful for the continued partnership with the Birmingham Bloomfield Chamber,” said DeWayne Wells, president of Gleaners. “Every dollar this event raises provides three meals for a hungry neighbor. At a time of increasing need, especially in our suburban communities, this support is vital to help us achieve our mission.”

“It’s important that as the community need for food increases that we come together to respond to the call to fight hunger,” said Carrie Zarotney, president Birmingham Bloomfield Chamber. “Vine & Dine is an ideal event to share with family and friends or a great way to entertain clients, while supporting those in need.

Vine & Dine, held at Cranbrook Institute of Science, offers guests an outstanding selection of domestic and imported wines, a strolling buffet featuring the finest restaurants and caterers, glittering fashions, musical entertainment and a chance auction. Last year, Vine & Dine provided thousands of meals for the hungry in Oakland county communities. Tickets are $65 per person and special corporate pricing is available. As thethird-oldest food bank in the United States, Gleaners Community Food Bank’s mission has been to turn surplus food, which otherwise would go to waste, into millions of delicious meals for hungry people in southeastern Michigan. Since 1977, Gleaners Community Food Bank has grown from distributing just one or two million pounds of food a year to nearly 26 million pounds annually, equivalent to 65,000 meals per day.
